So you want to be an NHL GM at the trade deadline

What a powerful medium the internet provides.

What better source to make informed decisions about someone else's business and livelihood, particularly if you may be supporting it in some direct and/or indirect way.

The advent of sites like CapGeek.com and the preponderance of Fantasy Leagues in all major sports, including professional hockey, puts many fans and followers in a position to have an opinion on NHL franchise management and fiscal planning.

Such empowerment allows these individuals to take on the unpaid and unsolicited duty and responsibility to influence how best a team could become successful in making the playoffs, and to even win the Stanley Cup.

This is all hypothetical of course, but using real numbers that those in actual paid positions have reference to, the involvement of such 'wannabes' helps to create more interest in a team, the league, and the sport even more than would happen otherwise.

Many of these 'virtual NHL GM's' will state their cases on their personal blogs, twitter feeds and web sites in order to get the discussion started and to fuel the discussion with probably more information and thought than is really needed or used in the actual 'real world' business side of the NHL.

Many a GM and/or executives in the front office must get a few chuckles from some of them, and even some great ideas from others - who knows.

Call it playing the NHL GM Simulator game.

Game on.
